Acute Global Limited is pleased to announce a significant milestone for one of its portfolio companies, Payless Retail Proprietary Limited, which was officially accepted into the Botswana Stock Exchange Tshipidi Mentorship Program (TMP) on 29 June 2022.
A New Chapter for Payless Retail
Payless Retail is a dynamic and newly aquaired supermarket chain with a clear mission to become Botswana’s leading one-stop shopping destination. The business was formed following the strategic acquisition of certain assets of Payless Supermarkets by Ellis Retail Group, laying the foundation for a revitalised retail brand under new ownership.
While Payless Retail operates as a new corporate entity, it proudly carries forward the legacy of one of Botswana’s most recognisable supermarket brands, combining heritage with a renewed focus on operational excellence, customer experience, and sustainable growth.
A Legacy of Trust and Quality
The Payless brand traces its origins back to January 1976, when it began trading as Corner Supermarket Proprietary Limited. Over several decades, the brand earned the trust of Batswana through a consistent focus on quality, affordability, and convenience.
Today, Payless Retail operates nine stores across Botswana and continues to pursue an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at increasing accessibility and strengthening its presence in key communities nationwide.
The Tshipidi Mentorship Program as a Gateway to Growth
The BSE Tshipidi Mentorship Program is designed to support high potential companies by strengthening governance frameworks, leadership capability, and strategic readiness for future growth and possible listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange.
Acceptance into the program signals confidence in Payless Retail’s strategic direction and growth potential. Through the program, the company will benefit from targeted mentorship and structured guidance intended to enhance operational discipline, governance practices, and long term sustainability.
The Tshipidi Mentorship Program is conducted over a three month period, with each month comprising a dedicated day of facilitation. Admission into the program requires the submission of a comprehensive company profile, certificate of incorporation, and a motivating letter. Each application is assessed by the program team, with feedback provided prior to the commencement of the first session.
Looking Ahead
As Payless Retail embarks on this mentorship journey, the business remains firmly committed to its core values of quality, convenience, and customer satisfaction. The insights and support gained through the Tshipidi Mentorship Program are expected to further strengthen the company’s foundations as it executes its expansion strategy and enhances its value proposition.
Acute Global Limited congratulates the Payless Retail team on this achievement and looks forward to supporting the business as it continues to grow, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to Botswana’s retail landscape.
